13 Square Meters – a short documentary by Kamil Bembnista and Ayham Dalal

In 2015, Berlin received thousands of refugees over night. To accommodate them, new types of refugee camps called “Tempohomes” were constructed and new typologies of shelter were designed. This short documentary explores the notion of the refugee camp as a space of “care and control” and offers provocative insights into the meaning of shelters today. It, moreover, highlights the links between refugee shelters, the city’s everyday architecture and the production of mass housing.

The film was awarded with the first prize at the London Architecture Film Festival 2021, category “Care”,  the third prize at the XV. Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival and the People’s Choice Award at a the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO SHORT FILM FESTIVAL in Minsk
